The time FINALLY rolled around for Cody and "the boys" to go on their MUCH ANTICIPATED (and that's an understatement!) Alaska trip- Woohoo!! :o) They have been waiting and waiting and waiting for "September 2009" to roll around for well over a year now. The time has now come and gone, and Cody, his Dad, brother Corey, and brother-in-law Eric, have all consented that it was one of the very best experiences of their lives and they have BIG plans to go back again soon. Next time however, I think they need to take their wives too... and maybe in more of a "cruise" form :o)
Here are just a few of the pictures from their incredible trip... I won't attempt to explain the ones that I know nothing about, however I think most are pretty self explanatory. Enjoy!!
They took float planes to Thorn Bay, Alaska.
And then the "catching"- NOT "fishing"- began!!
The Silver Salmon were running from the ocean up the streams to spawn
They caught TONS of fish... (P.S. isn't Cody handsome!?:o) )
Everyone caught tons of fish...
And more fish...
And now we are EATING all of this fish, and it is extremely tasty! :o)
They went deep sea fishing one day. Eric caught almost 150 lb. halibut. They also caught Lean Cod and Rock Fish.
This is Cody's trophy Yellow-Eyed Rock Fish. It was only a couple lbs. shy of the state record. The captain of the boat tried to convince him to get it mounted. I, for one, am extremely grateful that it is in our tummy's and NOT on my living room wall however!
Corey was the reason this whole trip happened. Thanks for getting it all together Cork :o)
They also hunted black bear. However, they made a new rule this season that you could only hunt the bear from a boat, not a truck. This made the hunting pretty difficult, and the boys finally decided to spend most of their time fishing, instead of hunting, since it was guranteed to be productive.
They also set out crab pots. All Cody caught was these crazy Sun Star things in his.
Cody "eating" the salmon eggs and trying to make Wes and Asae jealous :o) Sorry he couldn't bring any back!! :o(
Cody said the pictures don't do justice to how beautiful it really was. This picture is of some whales, but they are difficult to see. They also saw a lot of sea otters, some beavers, a ton of deer, a bear, and lots of other cool animals.

Holy moly! I learned a lot about hunting and fishing! It makes me glad Dan doesn't do that sort of thing. Nothing wrong with it, but seeing your 2-3 year old coming and giving you the dead squirrels? Gross. It looks like he's quite the hunter and fisher! You'll be eating lots of catches for a while! :)
